Processed, then discarded. We never store your files. · Not tax advice.

Self-employed Canadians and small businesses claiming input tax credits need the GST or HST on each receipt, and sometimes PST or QST, kept apart from the total. Drop your receipts and invoices and get a spreadsheet with the date, vendor, GST/HST, PST/QST and total for each. Tax amounts are read as printed, so receipts from different provinces work in the same batch. The summary tab totals each category so you can reconcile quickly.

Why it’s slow by hand

Why Canadian sales tax is hard to track

  • GST, HST, PST and QST appear differently on each receipt.
  • Rates differ by province.
  • Input tax credits need the tax amount from every receipt.

FAQ

GST/HST receipts — questions

Does it work with receipts from any province?

Yes. It reads the tax amounts printed on each receipt rather than applying a rate, so mixed provinces are fine.

Is the vendor's GST/HST number captured?

When it's printed, it's added to the description so you have it for your records.

What currency is used?

CAD by default. Receipts in other currencies keep their own currency code. We don't convert them.
